Singing Melody — Want You Back

Singing Melody - The Best Of (DOWNLOAD) - Chinchilla Choons

Introduction:

Born Everton Hardweare on 23 November 1967 in Kingston, Jamaica, Singing Melody is a reggae vocalist, producer and songwriter who has built a career across four decades through exceptional voice, a talent for blending reggae with R&B, and a gift for production that has extended his influence far beyond his own recordings. His first single, "Tie Me", was produced in 1987 by the legendary King Tubby — one of reggae's greatest dub pioneers. His breakthrough came with production duo Steely & Clevie, who produced his international hit cover of Surface's R&B single "Shower Me with Your Love". In 1990 he recorded the Japanese-language single "Sayonara Tokyo" for Sony Music Japan, performed at a concert in Japan, and signed with Parish Records for his 1992 debut LP Original (distributed by VP Records). His 1999 VP Records album Sweeter produced the single "Want You Back", which reached number one on the Jamaica Star's reggae/dancehall chart and number two on the MTV2 playlist, winning Song of the Year at the 1999 Reggae/Soca Music Awards. He later produced for Morgan Heritage, Richie Stephens and Turbulence, and co-founded the reggae supergroup L.U.S.T with Lukie D, Thriller U and Tony Curtis.

King Tubby, Steely & Clevie & A Career Built on Craft:

Everton Hardweare grew up in Kingston where his musical gifts brought him into contact with King Tubby — one of the founding architects of dub reggae — who produced his 1987 debut single "Tie Me" on the Firehouse label. The connection with Steely & Clevie — the production duo who defined the digital dancehall era — led to his cover of Surface's American R&B song "Shower Me with Your Love", which found immediate crossover appeal. His 1990 Japanese recording "Sayonara Tokyo" for Sony Music Japan reflected his ability to reach across musical cultures — a quality that has run through his career.

His VP Records debut Original (1992) established his international presence. His 1999 album Sweeter was the commercial breakthrough: "Want You Back" topped the Jamaican charts, placed high on MTV2, and won Song of the Year in the Reggae/Soca Music Awards. His own label S.H.E.M. Music Productions and his role promoting the annual Kingston concert "Symphony Under the Stars" demonstrated a commitment to the wider reggae community beyond his own artistry. His 2002 VP Records album Expressions and 2012 release They Call Me Mr. Melody extended a discography built consistently on quality rather than volume.
