Chronixx — Voice of the Reggae Revival

Chronixx - The Best Of (DOWNLOAD) - Chinchilla Choons

Introduction:

Born Jamar Rolando McNaughton on 10 October 1992 in Spanish Town (De La Vega City), Saint Catherine, Jamaica, Chronixx is the most internationally celebrated artist of the reggae revival generation — the movement that returned roots, consciousness and spiritual fire to the heart of Jamaican music in the 2010s. The son of reggae artist Chronicle, he wrote his first song at the age of five, appeared on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, performed at Glastonbury, headlined Central Park and Alexandra Palace, earned a Grammy nomination and was named an Adidas Originals global ambassador. His fans have included Usain Bolt, Mick Jagger, Nas and Lauryn Hill — a range that speaks to the extraordinary breadth of his appeal.

Born Into Music:

Growing up in the Kingston studio world, young Jamar was exposed to reggae legends from the earliest age — his father Chronicle brought him to sessions where he met Gregory Isaacs, Burro Banton and other giants of Jamaican music. He was known first as "Little Chronicle", and the name Chronixx emerged from his circle — honouring his father while marking his own identity. He wrote his first song "Rice Grain" at five. By eleven he was recording gospel tracks with producer Danny Browne. By fourteen he was producing riddims for other artists including Konshens and Popcaan. When his brother died in 2009 it became the catalyst for his decision to commit fully to his own voice and his own music.

Partnering with producer Romaine "Teflon" Arnett at ZincFence Records, Chronixx began building what would become one of the most devoted fanbases in modern reggae. His debut EP Hooked on Chronixx (2011) introduced him to the world. Major Lazer featured him on their 2012 mixtape Start a Fyah — giving him international exposure overnight.

From Spanish Town to the World:

His 2013 singles "Smile Jamaica" and "Here Comes Trouble" became anthems, and his 2014 EP Dread & Terrible topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and stayed in the Top 10 for 42 consecutive weeks. After his appearance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, followed by a 5,000-capacity concert in Central Park, Chronixx was unmistakably a global star. In March 2013 he travelled to Kenya as a Peace Ambassador during the country's general election and performed at the Tuko Rada Peace Concert in Nairobi — testimony to the trust placed in his music and his message.

His debut album Chronology (2017) — released on Virgin EMI — received a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album and featured collaborations with Rudimental. It contained some of his finest work: "Skankin' Sweet", "Majesty", "Likes" and "Smile Jamaica". He was awarded Jamaica's Prime Minister's National Youth Award for Excellence the same year. U2 invited him to perform at a New York charity concert; Adidas recruited him as the face of their Originals Spezial Line.

After a period of deliberate quiet from 2020, Chronixx returned to the stage in August 2025 as the headline act at Reggaeland in Milton Keynes, announcing a forthcoming album titled Exile — signalling a powerful return.
