Koffee — Toast
Introduction:
Born Mikayla Victoria Simpson on 16 February 2000 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Koffee is the most celebrated young reggae artist of her generation and a genuine trailblazer — the youngest person and first woman ever to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, which she took home at nineteen years old in January 2020 for her debut EP Rapture. Self-taught guitarist, singer, songwriter, rapper and deejay, she emerged from near anonymity to global recognition in a matter of months, mentored by Protoje and Chronixx, championed by Cocoa Tea, embraced by Rihanna and featured on a Barack Obama playlist. "Toast" — her joyous, infectious hymn to gratitude — has over 122 million Spotify streams. Koffee is Jamaica's future — and Jamaica's present.
Spanish Town, Church & A Tribute to Usain Bolt:
Koffee grew up in Spanish Town, Jamaica, the daughter of a Seventh-day Adventist mother who worked for the Ministry of Health. Her earliest musical inspiration came from her church choir. She taught herself guitar at twelve on a borrowed instrument, began writing her own songs at thirteen, and drew her deepest musical influences from reggae singer Protoje. In 2017, at seventeen years old, she posted an acoustic version of "Legend" — a tribute to sprint legend Usain Bolt — online. Bolt shared it on his social media. It was the spark that lit the fire.

Rebel Salute, Rapture & The Grammy:
In early 2018, Cocoa Tea brought the then-unknown teenager on stage at Rebel Salute before more than 10,000 people, calling her "Jamaica's next female sensation." Her ten-minute set was the most talked-about of the entire festival. Protoje invited her to perform with him. Chronixx invited her onto a BBC Radio 1Xtra broadcast at Tuff Gong Studios, and she toured the UK with him. She signed with Columbia Records UK. Her December 2018 single "Raggamuffin" — calling out gun violence and government neglect of Jamaican youth — was named one of BBC Radio 1Xtra's Hot for 2019 acts. Her next single "Toast", produced by Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, was unstoppable — a bright, rapid-fire expression of gratitude that worked in clubs and on radio and in living rooms simultaneously. Chronixx and Protoje both appear in the video.
Her five-track debut EP Rapture was released in March 2019 on Columbia Records. On 26 January 2020, at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Koffee made history as the youngest winner and first woman ever to receive the Best Reggae Album Grammy. She subsequently signed with RCA Records. Her debut album Gifted was released in March 2022 — ten tracks written entirely by Koffee, balancing intricate verses with accessible hooks, blending roots reggae with contemporary rhythms. It includes "X10", set to the tune of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" with Marley's own vocals woven throughout.
