Terry Linen — Your Love Is My Love

Terry Linen - The Best Of (DOWNLOAD) - Chinchilla Choons

Introduction:

Born Kiplin Simpson in 1976 in the district of Red Bank, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, Terry Linen is one of reggae's most naturally gifted and emotionally resonant vocalists of the new millennium — a singer whose smooth, floating tenor was so reminiscent of Garnett Silk that his colleagues gave him the name Linen: if he sounded like Silk, they said, he should be named after something equally fine. He grew up in Red Bank, raised largely by his grandparents, and began singing at thirteen when his grandmother discovered his gift. He cut his debut single "The Rainbow Never Touched the Ground" for producer Anthony Red Rose in 1993. His career-making hit "Your Love Is My Love" — a reggae reworking of Whitney Houston's "My Love Is Your Love" — spent twelve consecutive weeks at number one on the reggae charts in both Miami and New York in 1999. His self-titled debut album (VP Records, 2001) received rave reviews internationally and sent him on tour to North America and Japan. His 2004 single "Counting Hours" — produced by Beres Hammond on his Harmony House label — became a worldwide reggae compilation staple. He has collaborated with Gentleman ("Jah Never Fail") and Capleton ("Love Is Coming at You"), and released new music as recently as 2026.

Red Bank, Black Kat Sound & The Voice Like Linen:

Kiplin Simpson grew up in the quiet community of Red Bank in Saint Elizabeth, attending Red Bank Primary and Red Bank High School before his family moved to Mandeville in Manchester, where his mother had remarried. He found his voice through church and through the local music scene, and in his teens began cutting dubplates for local sound systems — most notably the legendary Black Kat sound system. His reputation grew through these sound system appearances until producer Anthony Red Rose — who ran the Raggedy Joe label — took him into the studio in 1993. His debut single went unremarked, and a period of work in London followed, where he recorded the moderately successful "Jah Never Fail I Yet" for EMI Records Germany. Returning to Jamaica, his reunion with Red Rose produced the recording that changed his career: his reggae cover of Whitney Houston's "My Love Is Your Love", which topped reggae charts in Miami and New York for three months.

The self-titled VP Records album (2001) — featuring "Call On A Friend", "Couldn't Be the Girl for Me" and his cover work — showcased his range and earned him two encores at the prestigious True Juice Rebel Salute in January 2001. He signed with Uplifting Music International in 2007, releasing "Mood for Love" — three weeks at number one on the Richie B Reggae chart — and "No Time to Linger", which topped both the South Florida and New York reggae charts. His 2008 single "A Better Man" continued his chart run. His soulful, romantic style — sitting at the exact intersection of conscious roots, lovers rock and gospel — has given him a loyal following across four decades. He was still releasing new material in 2026 with the single "Yes I Will".
