I-Octane — Crying to the Nation

I -Octane - The Best Of (DOWNLOAD) - Chinchilla Choons

Introduction:

Born Byiome Muir on 29 April 1984 in Sandy Bay, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, I-Octane is one of the most emotionally compelling and socially conscious reggae and dancehall artists of his generation. His name — a play on high-octane fuel and the Rastafarian use of "I" — perfectly captures both the intensity of his delivery and the spiritual grounding of his message. From the chart-topping anthem "Stab Vampire" to the devastating grief ballad "Lose a Friend" to the global attention of his debut album Crying to the Nation on VP Records, I-Octane has built a career around honesty, emotional depth and a refusal to compromise his roots for commercial trends.

Clarendon to Kingston — The Musical Journey:

Growing up in Sandy Bay, a small community east of May Pen, Byiome Muir was drawn to music from the very beginning — singing during class and making rhythms everywhere he went. He attended Palmers Cross All-Age School and Garvey Maceo High School before briefly studying architecture at Knox Community College. But music proved the stronger calling. At sixteen he was introduced to Donovan Germain of the prestigious Penthouse Records — the label behind Buju Banton and Assassin — releasing his first singles "Oh Jah" and "Stepp a Seed" under the name Richie Rich. After three years at Penthouse he signed to the Arrows Recording Company in Kingston, adopting his permanent stage name, and the career began to take shape in earnest.

Stab Vampire, Mama You Alone & The Nation:

His 2007 roots reggae track "Stab Vampire" climbed to the top of Jamaican charts and won Video of the Year at the Excellence in Music awards — announcing him to the wider world. His 2009 emotionally raw anthems "Mama You Alone" and "Lose a Friend" — the latter later adapted as a tribute to those who died in the Tivoli Gardens police operation — confirmed him as one of Jamaica's most deeply felt voices. After moving to producer Robert Livingston's Scikron Entertainment, he released the EP "Straight From the Heart" in 2011, with lead single "Burn Dem Bridge" (produced by Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor) topping Jamaican charts and reaching New York's Hot 97. His 2012 debut album Crying to the Nation on VP Records received praise from AllMusic as a "solid winner" and from BBC Music as "a surprisingly varied set." NPR named his 2010 track "Puff It" one of the Top 5 Dancehall Tracks of the year.
