Pinchers — Bandelero

Pinchers - The Best Of (DOWNLOAD) - Chinchilla Choons

Introduction:

Born Delroy Thompson on 12 April 1965 in Jamaica, Pinchers is a reggae and dancehall singer whose career spans four decades and whose hits "Agony" and "Bandelero" remain among the most beloved records of the late 1980s and early 1990s Jamaican music scene. He released his debut album as a teenager in Jamaica for Blue Trac Records before relocating to the UK in 1985, where his career took shape with the help of King Jammy and Philip "Fatis" Burrell, and where his music found a devoted audience among the British reggae community. His 1987 smash "Agony" — produced by King Jammy — established him internationally. His 1990 hit "Bandelero" has endured as arguably his most loved and recognised single. He has continued recording and performing across multiple decades, making him one of reggae's most quietly resilient artists.

From Jamaica to London — Building a Career:

Growing up in Jamaica, Delroy Thompson's love of music was instilled by his mother from an early age. His first recordings came as a teenager on the Blue Trac Records label before he relocated to the UK in 1985. There he began working with producers through the British reggae scene, eventually connecting with the legendary King Jammy. His 1986 singles "Borrow No Gun", "Abrakabra" and "Eat Man" built his Jamaican credibility ahead of his breakthrough. Then came 1987's "Agony" — released from the album of the same name, produced by King Jammy — which established Pinchers as a major voice in the dancehall and lovers rock crossover that was capturing audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

That same year he recorded Mass Out — produced by Philip "Fatis" Burrell and backed by the legendary rhythm section of Sly & Robbie alongside Jackie Mittoo and Robbie Lyn — one of the most respected studio lineups in reggae history. His 1990 track "Bandelero" became his signature, an irresistible hook-driven dancehall anthem that has remained in rotation for over thirty years. He continued recording through the 1990s and beyond, with hits including "Carpenter", "Call Upon Mi God" and "Cross Them Bridge". His son Kemar Thompson, performing as Jr. Pinchers, has followed in his footsteps.
